Williamson, Stanley, Liverpool University Press, 1999, PB, 243pp

An account of the worst disaster of the North Wales coalfield and one of the worst in British mining history. The disaster occurred in 1934. 256 men lost their lives, 200 women were widowed and 800 children were left fatherless. The subsequent inquiry led to the establishment of the 1935 Royal Commission on the safety in coal mines. The author uses his own interviews with bereaved people and those involved in the rescue as well as drawing on personal accounts of the Inquiry. (ex lib good condition)
