This book describes walks, treks, climbs and caves in the district of Al Ayoun just north of the great castle of Ajloun in North Jordan. It is a region with its own uniquely beautiful forested valleys, flower-covered springtime meadows, orchards, olive groves and sites of antiquity dating back into prehistoric times.

Al Ayoun is in beautiful limestone country with walks and treks to cater for all abilities. There is also caving here, including a recently discovered pothole, and new climbs on cliffs that have only just been discovered. All this combined with Jordan's famous hospitality exemplified by the people of Al Ayoun who welcome you to their villages, their homestays, their unsurpassable local food, and to the Ayoun Trail and associated routes in this guide.

Within these pages you will find all there is to know about adventures in Al Ayoun, one of the most beautiful and verdant regions in the Kingdom, where the local people live a quiet rural life, tolerant and understanding of other religions and customs and always with a warm welcome for visitors.

The Authors
Di Taylor and Tony Howard have been climbing and travelling together for thirty years, opening new treks and
climbs across North Africa, the Middle East and elsewhere. In 1984 they discovered the climbing potential of Wadi Rum in south Jordan and wrote the guide to Treks & Climbs in Wadi Rum. It is now acclaimed as 'the world's best desert climbing area'. Having extended their explorations across the whole country, HM Queen Noor, wife of the late King Hussein, sponsored them to write the guide to Jordan.

This not only put Jordan firmly on the adventure tourism map but also helped to introduce young Jordanians to the adventures to be had in the hitherto almost unsuspected beauty and variety of their country. This led to an invitation from the people of Al Ayoun, a uniquely rural and forested area of north Jordan to develop treks and climbs in their area to aid their economy. Helped by the hospitable local people they found an unsuspected wealth of routes. This guide is the result.
