By the author of Hapton Valley Colliery, An Historic Account of an East Lancashire Coal Mine, this well illustrated monograph reflects the growing interest in coal mining. As well as looking at the mines themselves, it looks at a brief history of the Hargreaves family, whose company dominated mining around Burnley for 150 years. It also looks at the network of chain drawn tramways, called Ginneys, which transported the coal. It uses a mix of historical research and newspaper articles to build up a picture of this bygone industry with its triumphs and tragedies.
