Bricks are part of the structure of modern society. Even in the age of the microchip there is still a place for the traditional hand made brick!
Working with wire cut bricks - which have just been pressed. This production was recorded at Oak Farm Brickworks in 1982, and was I.A.Recordings second industrial archaeology project. It follows the process from raw clay through to the finished bricks. Showing the making of wire-cut and special hand moulded bricks.

View of the round, down draft kilns - once hand fired with coal Oak Farm was one of the few brickyards that still employed women hand moulders, one of whom, still working at the age of 68, had started as a girl loading railway wagons.
