Description

edited by Peter Joseph & Graham Thorne, 352 pages.

Synopsis from the Trevithick Society - Levant is one of the truly great mines of West Cornwall. Noted for its great mineral wealth, the grandeur of its cliff top site and its workings beneath the sea, it has a history which combines triumph and tragedy in equal measure.

The full story of Levant has yet to be written but in the interim a group of writers has come together, who have been, and are, researching various aspects of the mine’s history. They address a variety of topics from the very early days, right up to Levant’s recent emergence as a major mining heritage site. In addition the book contains a significant number of hitherto unpublished photographs from various periods.

The Trevithick Society claims descent from the small group who in 1935 saved the famous Levant winding engine for preservation and has been involved in the mine’s story throughout its existence.
