Description

A J Booth hB 96pp

28 Mines featured which extract Slate, Gold, Fluorspar and Coal . This is the fourth and Final part of the series- previous volumes include Small Coal Mines of South Wales Volumes 1 and 2, Small British Mines (North). The South is taken from a fictitious line below the Mersey across to the Humber in truth the mines are located in the North Midlands, North Wales and Forest of Dean and should only be seen as a selection of recent working sites visited by the Author and his faithful dog. Booth accompanies each photograph with interpretative captions and provides useful information including grid references and how processing is carried out. Unlike the previous volumes there are also a number of underground shots although it is a shame that no working areas or. faces are included amongst. Not to criticise too much there is very little written about any of these mines and clearly Booth has spent a lot of time and money researching and photographing the sites and all the photographs are of a very good quality. The mines featured are Aberliffenni, Above Park, Amber Valley, Apedale, Cannop, Cloggau, Coppice, Doe Lea, Gwynfynnydd, Hambles Gale, Haynes Bailey, Hopewell, Ladywash, Little Sherriff, Long Rake, Ludworth Moor, Moorside, Morses Level, Moss Brook, New High Carrob no3 and No4, Phoenix, Readings Level, Rotherside, Sallet Hole, Strathfield, and Werrington. 123 Black and White photos
