Since the first edition of this book was published in 1967, research has continued into various facets of the Cleveland Ironstone industry, chiefly by members of the Teesside Industrial Archaeology Group. This has resulted in additional information on mining sites being incorporated in this edition and has also provided more facts about the mine owners. Additional sites have been included, together with examples of the strata conditions at some of the more successful mines. It is emphasised that these examples are typical average sections of seam in the localities shown and are liable to alter in different districts of the same royalty.
